Description

The 2003 Mercury Marauder marked Mercury’s brash attempt to revive the spirit of American muscle in a modern sedan. Based on the Ford Panther platform — shared with the Grand Marquis, Crown Victoria, and Lincoln Town Car — the Marauder was a performance-oriented full-size sedan aimed at enthusiasts who wanted power and refinement in one package. 

Under the hood, it featured a 4.6-liter DOHC Modular V8, borrowed from the Mustang Mach 1, producing 302 horsepower and paired with a four-speed automatic transmission. It also came with a limited-slip rear differential, heavy-duty suspension, and larger brakes, giving it sharper handling than its more conservative siblings. 

Stylistically, the Marauder stood out with its monochromatic paint, blacked-out grille, 18-inch wheels, and leather interior with unique gauges. Despite its aggressive look and solid performance, it struggled in the market due to limited advertising and competition from more modern performance sedans. 

Only about 11,000 units were sold in 2003, with a short continuation into 2004 before the model was discontinued. Today, the ’03 Marauder is considered a cult classic among Panther platform fans, appreciated for its blend of old-school muscle and full-size comfort. And this meticulously-maintained two-owner example shows only 60,947 miles.
