Description

The fourth-generation Corvette enjoyed a successful run of fifteen years, but GM decided to introduce a radically redesigned version of America's sports car. The new C5 was much stiffer and lighter than the previous generation C4, thanks to the innovative use of hydroformed frame rails. Additionally, it featured a transaxle that not only improved weight distribution but also increased interior space. The C5 boasted several new features, including a drive-by-wire throttle and a variable effort power steering system. However, the most notable change was the introduction of the all-aluminum "LS" V8 engine, which has since become legendary. These changes produced a sports car that was innovative in construction, comfortable, and, most importantly, a true performer.
