Description

The C5 Corvette, available from 1997 through 2004, was a fast, capable performer thanks to a 350-horsepower LS1, powerful disc brakes, and a fully independent suspension capable of pulling nearly 1g around corners. However, modern Corvette lovers who pined for the styling of the groundbreaking C1 generation could turn to Advanced Automotive Technologies, and have the best of both worlds.

AAT founder Bill Miller and designer Steve Pasteiner conceived the 1953 Commemorative Edition conversion, which replaced the C5’s body panels with C1-style bodywork, while still using the factory attachment points. The result was a mix of old and new design with pronounced front fenders, a prominent front grille, a retro, rounded rear end with jet-age taillights, and lots of chrome.

This AAT 1953 Commemorative Edition example is based on a 2002 Corvette convertible. It was repainted red, and still retains its LS1 and six-speed manual transmission. And since it’s number 97 of a reported 200 examples made, it’s quite rare.
