Description
Prior to the introduction of the 1990 Mazda Miata, few thought they would ever see a British roadster re-imagined as a competent, dependable, and utterly charming automobile. Known globally as the MX-5, the Miata reinvented a vehicle segment in ways that its contemporaries never could. And it thrived.
By the time the second generation (NB) came along in 1999, the hidden headlights of earlier Miatas were gone and "shoulders" appeared over the tires, along with a little flare at the top of the tail. Car and Driver magazine wrote of the car: "(It's) where zing meets zest and makes whoopee."
The 2001 version continued to refine the formula that made the Miata a global icon. Under the hood, the car featured a 1.8-liter DOHC inline-four engine with variable valve timing, producing 142 horsepower, and standard transmission was a five-speed manual. The car’s curb weight remained light at around 2,387 pounds, preserving its nimble handling and responsive driving dynamics.
The 2001 model year introduced the Miata LS trim, which added luxury touches like leather seats, a Bose audio system, and 16-inch wheels. Mazda also offered a Special Edition with British Racing Green paint. This 2001 Miata wears Classic Red Paint and racing stripes, and it was ordered with the upgraded LS trim.
