Description

Mike “The Bike” Hailwood was already a Formula 1 and World Motorcycle Championship hero when he returned to two-wheel racing at age 37 in 1978. His victory in the Isle of Man TT F1 race on a Ducati 900SS that year made him a legend. The 2001 Ducati MH900e, also known as the MH900 Evoluzione, is a retro sport motorcycle created as a tribute to Hailwood's ’78 TT winner. The “MH” in its name stands for Mike Hailwood, and “e” signifies “evoluzione” or “evolution” in Italian. Unveiled as a concept created by Ducati chief designer Pierre Terblanche at the 1998 Intermot Show in Munich, the MH900e quickly captured viral attention. Ducati decided to produce a limited run of 2,000 units, selling them exclusively online.

The first 1,000 units sold out in just 31 minutes on 1 January 2000, and production began in December of that year, with the bikes being hand-built at Ducati's Bologna factory. The MH900e features a 904cc air-cooled two-valve V-twin engine with Ducati’s famous desmodromic valvetrain, producing 75 horsepower. It has a six-speed transmission and a distinctive tubular steel single-sided swingarm. The bike's design and graphics blends modern and retro elements, and each unit carries a decorative serial number plate.
