Description
Richard McAdam, known as “Doc” to his friends and family, epitomizes "work hard, play hard." Born and raised in rural Appalachia, Doc went on to become a renowned neurosurgeon in Virginia. Patients could regularly find Doc pulling into the hospital parking lot in one of his beloved Cobras or high-performance Mustangs. These cars were driven and enjoyed by Doc through the years, taking his family on back road joyrides on sunny day commutes. Hagerty Marketplace is honored to present the Doc McAdam Collection, offered entirely without reserve.

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“This 2000 Cobra R pushes the performance envelope far beyond the capabilities of any previous Mustang,” said John Coletti, Ford's Special Vehicle Engineering manager at the time.
The 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R ranks among the most uncompromising, track-focused Mustangs ever built. Developed by Ford’s Special Vehicle Team strictly for road racing homologation, it was never intended as a typical showroom model—buyers were required to hold a valid competition license to purchase one.
At its heart was a race-bred 5.4-liter DOHC V8 producing 385 horsepower, assembled with Carrillo connecting rods, forged pistons, high-flow aluminum heads, Cobra intake cams, and a low-restriction intake system with an 80mm throttle body and K&N filter. Stainless steel short-tube headers, Cobra catalysts, a Bassani X-pipe, and three Borla mufflers rumble out of dual oval outlets that exit on both sides in front of the rear tires. The side exhaust enabled the installation of a 20-gallon fuel cell. Power was routed through a TREMEC T-56 six-speed manual to a Gerodisc hydro-mechanical differential with 3.55:1 gearing.
To minimize weight, Ford deleted air conditioning, the radio, sound deadening, and rear seats. The suspension featured Eibach springs lowering the car 1.5 inches up front and 1.0 inch at the rear, paired with Bilstein shocks, while massive Brembo brakes ensured track-ready stopping power. A removable front splitter, functional hood scoop, towering rear wing, 18x9.5-inch wheels, and BFGoodrich G-Force KD tires gave the Cobra R its unmistakable presence.
Just 300 were built, all finished in Performance Red. The ultra-light, barely street-legal Cobra R could reach 175.3 mph and pull 1.01g, like this example showing under 4,150 actual miles. It was first delivered to Freedom Ford of Norfolk, Virginia, and subsequently purchased by Mr. McAdam in 2005 from its original owner.
This 2000 Ford Mustang SVT Cobra R is now represented at no reserve by a Broad Arrow Specialist with a original window sticker, a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and a clean Virginia title in the seller’s name.
