Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1998 Mercedes-Benz S 500 is part of the W140 series, which was produced from 1991 to 1998. Known for its substantial build quality and advanced technology, the W140 S-Class was a flagship model for Mercedes-Benz, with the S 500 only superseded by the V12-powered S 600. The S 500 featured a powerful 5.0-liter V8 engine with five-speed automatic transmission.
In typical Mercedes-Benz fashion the 1998 S 500 was loaded with safety innovations. It was equipped with features such as Electronic Stability Program (ESP), anti-lock brakes (ABS), and multiple airbags, setting a high standard for vehicle safety at the time. The W140 series also introduced double-paned windows for improved sound insulation, self-closing trunk and doors, electronic-folding side-view mirrors, and speed-sensitive steering. This model was renowned for its luxurious interior, which included leather upholstery and genuine wood trim.
The 1998 S 500 marked the end of the W140 era, transitioning to the W220 series in 1999. The S 500 sedan was praised for its silent, smooth ride and exceptional build quality, or as Mercedes-Benz stated, “Powerful, agile, and reassuringly secure, a Mercedes-Benz S-Class automobile imparts sheer driving pleasure and enduring satisfaction like no other automobile in the world.”
