Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Legendary Mercedes-Benz design chief Bruno Sacco has called the R129 SL-series his “most perfect car.” Sacco’s bold designs earned him several international design awards, including Car Magazine’s “Best Designer” award in 1996. And his sleek SL 500 earned Mercedes-Benz legions of loyal enthusiasts. But the beauty was hardly skin deep: the R129 possessed legendary engineering beyond its powerful engine and smooth transmission: for instance, one pioneering safety feature was an automatic roll-over bar which popped up in just 0.3 seconds when the vehicle sensed a possible crash.
By 1997, the SL 500 was powered by the 5.0-liter, 32-valve “M119” V8 with Bosch LH-Jetronic fuel injection, good for 315 horsepower. Much more of a grand tourer than a nimble sports car, the R129 is an accomplished cruiser with ample performance that pampers its driver and passenger. And the convenient well-insulated convertible top, handy stowage area behind the front seats, and generous trunk make the SL 500 the perfect road-trip vehicle.
This 1997 Mercedes Benz SL 500 Roadster is ready for summer cruising, wearing stunning red paint with a complementary Palomino leather interior.

Ownership History
The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History Report places this four-owner 1997 Mercedes Benz SL 500 in Florida, Colorado, and Texas.
The consignor states, “I believe this Mercedes is 100 percent stock. Everything is original including the paint, engine, transmission, Mercedes-Benz phone, and CD changer in the trunk. Nothing has been replaced since I bought it in 2018 from Houston, Texas. This car drives well, has no rust, and has always been garage kept. However due to being 28 years old, a mechanical inspection to check the factory springs, shocks, etc. is recommended.”
