The 1996 Mustang GT marked a pivotal shift in Ford’s pony car development. It introduced the 4.6-liter modular V8 engine, replacing the long-standing 5.0-liter pushrod V8. This new engine featured overhead camshaft architecture that improved efficiency and breathing capability, and worked with a five-speed manual transmission, sport suspension, and capable disc brakes to uphold Mustang’s performance heritage.
The GT’s sleek, aerodynamic design was comprised of a long hood, short rear deck, and aggressive front fascia. Distinctive vertical tail-lights, sculpted side panels, and alloy wheels emphasized its modern, performance-oriented character while retaining classic Mustang cues.
And the drop top version was surprisingly sophisticated: Convertibles were built with engine compartment bracing and rocker panels with heavier-gauge steel for structural integrity. And they came standard with a glass rear window, power windows, power locks, and a remote decklid release.
This 1996 Mustang GT is finished in Pacific Green with a tan top, with new tires and recent brake service getting it ready for its next owner.
