Description
Diesel World magazine wrote, “The Cummins/Dodge collaboration fired up the light truck diesel revolution and this truck is where it started.” The Cummins diesel powered 1992 Dodge W250 is part of the revered first-generation Dodge Ram trucks (1989–1993) that revolutionized the diesel pickup market. Powered by the legendary 5.9-liter 12-valve Cummins inline-six engine—known as the 6BT—this truck delivered 160 horsepower and a class-leading 400 lb-ft of torque at just 1,700 RPM. Originally designed for industrial and agricultural use, the engine was renowned for its durability, simplicity, and ease of maintenance.
By 1992, the W250 (the 4WD version of the 3/4-ton Ram) featured key upgrades, including the addition of an air-to-air intercooler, which improved engine efficiency and performance by cooling the turbocharged air before it entered the engine. This model year also saw the availability of the Club Cab configuration, offering more interior space.
The Cummins-powered W250 stood out in a market dominated by naturally aspirated diesels from Ford and GM. Its turbocharged, direct-injection setup gave it superior towing and fuel economy, making it a favorite among work truck enthusiasts. Today, the 1992 W250 is celebrated for its ruggedness, mechanical simplicity, and the iconic status of its Cummins engine.
