Description

Launched in 1989, the “R32” generation Nissan Skyline was designed from the ground up by Chief Engineer Naganori Ito to surpass the finest performance offerings from Europe. It set the vaunted Porsche 959 supercar as his target, debuting experimental technology including rear-wheel steering (High Capacity Actively Controlled Steering) and an advanced all-wheel drive system (Advanced Total Traction Engineering System for All Terrain) in the R32 GT-R. Those features helped it dominate in racing around the world, winning every Group A Japanese Touring Car race, all 29 events, from 1990 to 1993, and the Bathurst 1000 twice, earning it the menacing nickname “Godzilla.” Most variants of the R32 Skyline used an RB-Series twin-cam inline-six, with the single-turbocharged GTS-t model being powered by a 2.0-liter “RB20DET” inline-six. The model was also available in standard or Type M configuration. The latter featured larger five-spoke 16 inch wheels, four piston front calipers and twin piston rears, a limited slip differential, and minor cosmetic upgrades. Since becoming eligible for import, these Japanese-market Skylines have slowly trickled into the United States and have seen a flurry of demand as awareness and excitement around Japanese performance vehicles continue to rise.
