The Suzuki Carry and other sub-compact Kei trucks are the workhorses of southeast Asian commerce. Designed around the clogged roads and restricted parking of Japan’s cities, the Carry (also known as the DC51T) has been a mainstay of business and agriculture since 1961

The 1989 Suzuki Carry marked the final development stage of the ninth‑generation key truck, engineered to comply with Japan’s 550cc class regulations. Built around a cab‑over layout, it used a lightweight ladder‑frame chassis with a rear‑mounted, rear‑wheel‑drive powertrain, while optional selectable part‑time four‑wheel drive expanded rural capability. Power came from a carbureted F5A 543cc inline‑three producing modest output optimized for torque and efficiency. Four‑speed manual transmissions were offered, with a two‑speed transfer case on 4WD models as on this example. Leaf‑spring suspension at both axles and compact dimensions supported high payload ratios. Body styles included flatbed, dump, and enclosed van derivatives.
