Description

The third generation Pontiac Firebird was restructured into three tiers; the Firebird, Firebird S/E, and Firebird Trans Am with the T/A being the highest performance Firebird available. Additionally available only on the T/A was the GTA (Gran Turismo Americano) options package which added gold 16 inch diamond-spoke alloy wheels, a monochromatic paint scheme, and special GTA badges. It was intended to be the "ultimate" Trans Am and was the most expensive Firebird available, starting at $19,500. The high-performance WS6 suspension package was also re-tuned to offer a more compliant ride while still maintaining tight handling characteristics. The “L98” 5.7-liter V8 featuring Tuned Port Injection (TPI) was General Motors first successful foray into electronic fuel injection with the computer-controlled engines delivering more precise control of fuel and spark, yielding better fuel mileage and a crisp throttle response in the process. An uncommon sight on today’s roads, this 1988 Firebird Trans Am GTA comes finished in Flame Red Metallic on Black Cloth, one of only 1,231 Firebirds in this combination. This is a true piece of collectible American muscle, a great example of a rare car that has the power and handling to match its looks.

Ownership History

The clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report shows the original owner first registered this Pontiac Trans Am in 1988 in New Castle, Delaware and remained with the car for the first 80,000 miles. After parting ways at 83,354 miles, the car remained in Pennsylvania, until the current owner registered the vehicle in Oswego, Illinois.
