Description

Five years into the C4’s production, the 1988 Corvette continued its relentless march toward perfection. Having completed the full-year transition to aluminum cylinder heads in 1987, the iron-block, 5.7-liter Tuned Port Injection V8 featured a new camshaft and a low-friction valvetrain, pushing the Coupe’s power up to 245 horses. Those ponies flowed through either a four-speed automatic, or the 4+3 manual overdrive transmission.

A fully independent front and rear suspension harnessed that power with forged aluminum A-arms and fiberglass transverse leaf springs, with anti-lock disc brakes and 16-inch wheels with 255mm tires bringing the 3,200-pound Vette to a halt. And Z51 Performance Handling-equipped Corvette coupes were even more capable, wearing handsome 17-inch wheels and 275mm Goodyears, heavy-duty brakes, a 3.07:1 performance axle, a fast-ratio power steering gear, firmer springs with larger stabilizer bars, Bilstein shocks, and built-in fluid coolers.

Inside, the Corvette’s driver viewed a futuristic “Star Wars” dashboard from comfortable bucket seats, and enjoyed standard air conditioning, speed control, a tilt/telescoping wheel, and power windows and door locks.

This 1988 Corvette coupe is finished in beautiful Dark Red Metallic over a Saddle leather interior, wears the Z51 performance package, and is said to have only traveled 38,011 miles since new.
