Introduced in 1976, the 924 was first in a long line of front-engined, entry-level Porsche sports cars positioned below the more upscale 911. It boasts a simpler, more pure design, built without the extra frills, box flares, and aggressive aero of its bigger 944 sibling, while still offering an engaging analog driving experience. The 924S, unveiled in 1986, built upon that foundation, being the first 924 variant powered by an in-house Porsche powerplant with noticeably more oomph compared to the VW-sourced units used previously. Other benefits included upgraded suspension and a five-lug wheel pattern, making the 924S a capable machine deserving of the Porsche crest.
