Description
In 1987, Buick’s GNX was outrunning twin-turbo Corvettes, and its Grand National sibling was outrunning everything else. And while those final-year G-body hot rods grabbed the headlines, Buick also offered a sleeper: the Turbo-T.
Formerly known as the T-Type, the 1987 Turbo-T was a Grand National minus the flash. It was powered by the same intercooled turbo V6 with sequential fuel injection and a distributor-less ignition system. It made the same 245 horses and tire-burning 355 pound-feet of torque. And it passed its prodigious power through the same beefy auto transmission and 10-bolt rear end.
But there was no rear spoiler, no chrome wheels, no Grand National badges, and no fancy interior. In fact, it wore lightweight aluminum wheels and bumper brackets, making it theoretically faster than a GN. And only the hood bulge, “T” badges, and “3.8 SFI Turbo” emblems gave away its 13-second abilities to potential challengers.
This 1987 Turbo-T is clean inside, out, and under, and only shows 12,878 miles since new. Plus, it has the desirable WE4 appearance package, which includes black bumpers and exterior trim. And as only 1,547 WE4s were produced in 1987, it is incredibly rare.
