After the muscle car era’s heyday in the late 1960s and early ‘70s, only two names soldiered on into the 1980s. Known as the “Fox body,” this new generation of Mustang offered compact, sporting performance with an electronic fuel-injected V8. With increasing international competition, the 302 cu-in was known as the “5.0” with a pair of badges on each of the front fenders. The car was rated in excess of 200 horsepower, but the real hit was its 285 lb-ft of peak torque. Coupled to a snappy throttle response, the Mustang GT sprinted from zero to 60 in just about six seconds. When comparing the Mustang to its primary rival, the Chevrolet Camaro, Car and Driver gave the Mustang the edge due to its sportier feel. This particular example of Ford’s iconic pony car has remained virtually unchanged over the past 37 years, offering a fantastic opportunity to acquire a sublime example of 1980s American muscle.
