Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. Nothing quite encapsulates the launch and excitement of the region as this out-of-world collection of cars including movie cars and tributes, desirable classics, and a rocket truck itself. 3… 2… 1… These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * *
In 1978, the Toyota Supra was introduced as a sporty car based on the Celica. And while JDM versions used a four-cylinder, global-market cars offered a Datsun 280z-fighting six-cylinder. North American sales were solid, so in 1981, the second-generation Supra was introduced as a 1982 model.
Both the wheelbase (102 inches) and overall length (183 inches) of the new A60 chassis were longer, and the hatchback’s styling had been heavily revised with a graceful look and modern features like hideaway headlights. Underneath, a sporty suspension held the curves tightly. And in the engine bay the twin-cam six cylinder, which had received a bump in power to 161 horses in 1984, pulled the three-thousand-pound hatchback with surprising alacrity. The result was a fun and refined sports coupe that placed near the top of Car and Driver’s 1985 comparison test, with the writer saying, “The big reason we love this car is that it does everything elegantly. Its straight-line stability is laser-keen. Lane changes are sharp. And the twin-cam six is pure velvet.”
This 1985 Toyota Supra is the final year for the second-generation chassis, and presents in stunning burgundy with a matching burgundy leather interior.
