Description
Built by Westfalia under direct contract for Volkswagen, the Vanagon Westfalia combined a fully equipped camper interior with the practicality of a family hauler in a package that has cultivated one of the most devoted followings in the collector van market. The 1984 model year brought a significant milestone with the introduction of the water-cooled Wasserboxer flat-four replacing the earlier air-cooled unit, and the Wolfsburg Edition sat at the top of the range as the fully-optioned configuration.
This example is finished in beige metallic and tan two-tone with beige upholstery and has been repowered with a 2.3-liter flat-four engine sourced from GoWesty, installed in November 2021, alongside a mechanical refresh highlighted below. Additional work performed in 2025 included a replacement power steering rack, various switches, horn, and new laminate flooring.
The van's mini-fridge space has been converted to storage, and additional modifications include 16” Mercedes-Benz-style alloy wheels, an aftermarket CD radio and speakers, auxiliary rear light, and a rear tow bar.
This 1984 Volkswagen Westfalia is now offered with a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report and clean New Mexico title.

Ownership History
From the seller, “I purchased the van in March of 2025 from a private seller in Ruidoso, NM. The seller had purchased it from a man in Oregon (the original owner), and upon purchase he had the engine replaced along with many of the van's mechanical components and had the exterior detailed.
When my family purchased the van, we drove her to the Port of Long Beach and shipped her to the Big Island of Hawaii. My wife and two-year-old son and myself lived and camped out of the van on the Big Island for seven months, mostly in the dry pastures and black sand beaches of the South Point region. We shipped the van back to New Mexico in November of 2025, and since then she's been dwelling on our family homestead in the mountains.
While we were in Hawaii, she was under the care of a veteran Westy mechanic, who proclaimed that our van ran more smoothly and more beautifully than many Westies he had worked on in over 40 years as a VW mechanic, including newer models from the 1990s!”
