The Chevrolet El Camino combined the practicality of a pickup with the comfort and styling of a passenger car, and in the 1980s, few variants captured that dual-purpose spirit like the Choo Choo Customs “Designer Series SS.” Produced under factory authorization by Choo Choo Customs of Chattanooga, Tennessee, the special-edition El Camino SS added Monte Carlo SS-inspired styling cues, distinctive graphics, and exclusive aerodynamic bodywork.

Chevrolet contracted Choo Choo Customs to produce these limited-edition El Camino SS models, officially known as the Designer Series, beginning in 1983. Each vehicle was delivered to Choo Choo Customs directly from Chevrolet for modification before being distributed to dealers nationwide. Distinguished by a NASCAR-inspired front fascia, cowl-induction-style hood, and unique SS graphics, these special El Caminos brought performance styling to GM’s beloved car-truck hybrid. Fewer than 5,000 examples were produced between 1983 and 1987, with approximately 1,300 built for 1984, making surviving examples highly collectible today.

This 1984 Chevrolet El Camino SS Choo Choo is a two-owner example showing less than 25k miles on the odometer. According to the selling dealer, “it was purchased new on April 3, 1984, by Mr. Norman Wilder from Ron Hite Chevrolet-Subaru in Morristown, Tennessee, and has been carefully preserved since.” Power comes from a 5.0-liter V8 fed by a four-barrel carburetor and paired with a three-speed automatic transmission. Finished in White over a Dark Royal Blue cloth interior, the vehicle retains its factory Rally wheels and Choo Choo–specific aerodynamic front fascia. The sale includes the original paperwork, manuals, and documentation.
