Description
First launched in 1982, and based on a successful Le Mans prototype, the Porsche 944 redefined what an “entry-level” sports car could be. With its front-engine, rear transaxle layout with 2+2 seating and near-perfect weight distribution, the 944 was both a delight to drive and relatively practical.
The 944’s water-cooled 2.5-liter powerplant was developed using a balance shaft design licensed from Mitsubishi to give the inherently rougher inline-four layout a smoother revving characteristic, befitting of a high-performance luxury marque. With over 160,000 units produced during a nine-year production run, the Porsche 944 has become a beloved classic with a genuine racing heritage.
This ‘83 944 was acquired in June 1994 by the seller, who tells us the Digital Motor Electronics (DME) control unit has been replaced with an aftermarket unit and that the fuel system has been refreshed with a replacement fuel pump, injectors, and filter. It has also been fitted with 16” Fuchs-style wheels wrapped in Uniroyal Tiger-Paw tires.
The car rolled out of the Neckarsulm, Germany, assembly plant finished in Guards Red over black leather, and additional details include a five-speed manual transaxle, a removable roof panel, fog lights, a Blaupunkt Monterey radio, intermittent wipers, and red carpeted floor mats with Porsche embroidery.
This 1983 Porsche 944 shows under 66,000 miles and is now offered with extra wheels, a clean CARFAX Vehicle History Report, and a clean Louisiana title in the seller’s name.
