1981 Ferrari Mondial 8

Description

The Pininfarina-designed Mondial 8 was presented at the 1980 Geneva Salon as the replacement for Bertone’s somewhat controversially styled 308 GT4. The new 2+2 retained its predecessor’s transverse, mid-mounted V8 layout with a 3.9 inch longer wheelbase, allowing for a more spacious cabin and additional leg room for rear passengers. The Mondial’s V8 was the same unit as that used in the 308 GT4, but with the benefit of Bosch K-Jetronic fuel injection and Magneti Marelli Digiplex electronic ignition for a claimed output of 214 horsepower in European-market specification (nine horsepower more than US-market examples). As a European-market car, this particular Mondial 8 also weighs approximately 176 pounds less than US-market examples due to its lack of additional crash bracing between the passenger and engine compartment, an exhaust silencer shield, and increased rear bumper protection. Today, the Mondial 8 presents an excellent entry point into Ferrari ownership.

Ownership History

The consignor reports acquiring this 1981 Ferrari Mondial 8 from the original owner in September 2011, and has since travelled approximately 10,000 of the 55,350 kilometers shown on the odometer. The accompanying CARFAX Vehicle History report shows registration history in Michigan beginning in 2011.
