In 1980, the Corvette received a host of engineering upgrades aimed at meeting new performance and efficiency standards. Chevrolet trimmed 250 pounds from the car’s weight by incorporating thinner fiberglass panels and aluminum parts. Aerodynamics also saw a boost thanks to integrated front and rear spoilers, which improved both handling and fuel economy.

Engine choices — excluding California’s unique 305 V8 — centered around two 350-cubic-inch V8s. The high-performance L82 produced 230 horsepower and came exclusively with an automatic transmission, while the base L48 offered drivers a choice between manual and automatic gearboxes.

Regardless of the powertrain, every Corvette featured the brand’s signature cockpit-style interior, complete with an informative gauge package and standard amenities like air conditioning, power windows and mirrors, and a tilt/telescoping steering wheel.

But as technology marches on, the best way to enjoy a classic Vette is with modern components. This 1980 Corvette underwent a comprehensive, seven-year build that finished in 2022. It has more than doubled its original horsepower with a modern LS3 V8, connected to a five-speed manual and upgraded rear end.
