Description
Pontiac introduced the Firebird in 1967 as its entry into the pony-car segment, sharing the F-body platform with the Chevrolet Camaro but distinguished by its styling and performance focus. By the late 1970s, the Firebird Trans Am had become one of the most recognizable American performance cars of its era, known for bold graphics, distinctive bodywork, and available V8 power.
The 1979 model year represented the final appearance of the second-generation Firebird before styling revisions were introduced for 1980. It remains notable for its crisp body lines, optional “screaming chicken” hood decal, and multiple drivetrain options. These cars combined style and performance at a time when the muscle car market was in transition.
This 1979 Pontiac Firebird Trans Am is finished in its factory-correct Solar Gold color with an optional tan velour interior and bucket seats. It is equipped with the desirable WS6 "Special Performance Package" including aluminum wheels, four-wheel disc brakes, and upgraded suspension components along with optional cruise control and air conditioning. Power is provided by a factory 6.6-liter (403ci) Oldsmobile V8 paired with an automatic transmission.
