Description
The 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V represents the final year of production for the iconic personal luxury coupe, which had a three-year run from 1977 to ’79. The Mark V was the third generation of the Mark Series, following the Mark III and Mark IV.
The opulent Lincoln Mark V featured a long, sleek body measuring 230 inches in length, making it the longest two-door coupe ever marketed by Ford Motor Company. The exterior design included signature elements such as the faux “spare tire” decklid, oval opera windows, hidden headlights, and radiator-style grille. Functional louvers behind the front wheels added to its unique appearance.
Under the hood, the 1979 Mark V was powered by a 400 cubic-inch V8 engine producing 159 horsepower and 315 lb-ft of torque, paired with a three-speed C6 automatic transmission. The Mark V also received plush interior appointments.
This 1979 Lincoln Continental Mark V looks like it just rolled out of the showroom, and it is no wonder: The consignor purchased it from the estate of its original owner, who displayed it in a museum. The odometer shows 1,765 miles. As Lincoln’s 1979 Mark V brochure suggested, “Perhaps it's something you owe yourself.”
