Ford Tough? Ford’s brochure in ’79 stated, “Ford truck tests at the Arizona Proving Ground totaled more than a million pickup miles last year. Bruising miles of steel-reinforced chuckholes, twist ditches, salt baths, and high-speed durability runs.” The 1973–1981 Ford pickups were also heavily reworked with an all-new look, and the grille was totally redesigned for Ford’s 75th anniversary in 1978, mimicking the heavy-duty L-series “Louisville Line” trucks. One of the more notable features was the all new Styleside pickup box, which was billed at the time as the widest in the industry. Then there was Ford’s unique SuperCab, with room to seat five with twin rear jump seats and extra inside storage space. It was the 1970s, and you could even order a factory-installed 40-channel CB radio, good buddy.

Of course, many of these “Built Ford Tough” trucks have seen their fair share of use and abuse over the past 40 years, but this survivor is remarkably clean! This F150 SuperCab also has a comfortable cloth and vinyl Custom interior trim. Power is by the most powerful engine available in 1979, the massive 460 cu-in V8 with 4bbl carburetor. And that’s a big 10-4!

This 1979 Ford F150 4x2 Styleside SuperCab Custom pickup was built on December 8, 1978, at the Kansas City, Missouri, assembly plant. It was delivered new to Butler Ford in Ashland, Oregon. It is believed the truck spent over 20 years in Oregon before relocating to Michigan in 2002 with the seller.
