Description
The Mach 5 is the legendary race car from the 1967 anime Speed Racer (Mach GoGoGo). Built by Pops Racer, it was the fifth car he designed, combining sleek styling with futuristic technology. Its white body with red accents became iconic, but its real fame came from seven steering-wheel buttons that activated unique gadgets: rotary saws, a homing robot, an underwater canopy, and auto jacks for jumping obstacles. These features helped Speed conquer dangerous tracks and outsmart rivals, making the Mach 5 a symbol of innovation and adventure. Over time, it appeared in comics, games, and the 2008 live-action film, cementing its place as one of pop culture’s most recognizable fictional vehicles—a perfect blend of racing excitement and engineering imagination.
This Mach 5 tribute features fiberglass body panels mounted to a 1979 Chevrolet Corvette chassis. Power is provided by a 350ci V8 fed by an Edelbrock four-barrel carburetor and sent to the rear wheel through a three-speed automatic transmission. The body is finished in white and wears Mach 5-style graphics, while the red interior features an aftermarket steering wheel with fabricated buttons. Additional modifications include fixed headlights, digital instrumentation, and racing harnesses.
This Mach 5 tribute is now offered with a white helmet with Speed Racer-style graphics and a clean Oklahoma title that describes the car as a 1979 Chevrolet.
