Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Austin Mini Convertible was never a standard production model from British Leyland, but rather the result of specialist aftermarket conversions. By 1979, the Mini was already two decades old, yet its cultural appeal remained strong, particularly among younger buyers and style‑conscious urban drivers. British Leyland had limited resources for niche body styles, so independent coachbuilders stepped in to fill the gap.
The best‑known conversions were performed by firms such as Crayford Auto Developments and Wood & Pickett, which had experience converting Minis into cabriolets as early as the mid‑1960s. By 1979, these companies and smaller regional firms were adapting standard Austin Mini sedans into open cars by removing the steel roof and reinforcing the sills, A‑posts, and floorpan to maintain structural rigidity.
Though the full history has yet to be uncovered for this 1979 Mini Convertible, the burred walnut instrument panel were commonly fitted to Wood & Pickett builds. Finished in red with a black cloth interior with bolstered front seats, this left-hand-drive Mini features alloy wheels and a CD player.
This 1979 Austin Mini Convertible Conversion is now offered by the selling dealer with a clean Florida title.
