Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
“Ford pickups are engineered to work hard and last long.” The 1978 Ford F-150 Custom marked a decisive year in Ford’s truck evolution. Introduced as part of the sixth generation of the F-Series (1973–1979), the F-150 was created to bridge the gap between the lighter-duty F-100 and the heavy-duty F-250. By 1978, the F-150 had gained popularity for its increased payload capacity and rugged durability, making it a favorite among both commercial users and weekend warriors.
The “Custom” trim was the base model, offering a no-frills approach with vinyl bench seats, minimal chrome, and basic instrumentation. However, buyers could upgrade with optional features like air conditioning, power steering, and AM/FM radios. The truck came in various configurations, including regular cab and SuperCab, with short or long beds.
Under the hood, the 1978 F-150 Custom offered a range of engines, from the reliable 300 cubic inch inline-six to powerful V8s like the 351M and 400. Paired with manual or automatic transmissions, these engines delivered solid performance for towing and hauling.
Stylistically, the 1978 model featured a bold grille design and squared-off body lines, reflecting the era’s utilitarian aesthetic. Ford said, “The F-150 gives you more truck where it counts—payload, strength, and value.” And this restored F-150 4x4 gives you even more: manufactured with the 300 cu-in Six, it now has a built Ford 460 cu-in V8, 3-inch lift kit, Rancho ES9000 shocks, custom aluminum wheels, more.
