Description
Chevrolet’s Malibu became its own model line for 1978 after several years as a trim level of the Chevelle. The all-new, downsized coupe rode a 108-inch wheelbase, and a 200-cubic-inch V6 was the standard engine, with V8 power available. The upscale Malibu Classic Landau coupe added a vinyl roof and two-tone paint.
Seller-owned since 1991, factory-style equipment on this '78 coupe includes a vinyl-covered landau-style roof, chrome front and rear bumpers, and a red cloth and vinyl bench seat with a matching red dashboard, door panels, and carpet. Silver paint with a black lower body and red, yellow, and blue stripes completes the exterior, which the seller describes as a retro 1970s-style paint job.
Under the cowl induction hood is a Bill Mitchell Products-built Hardcore 454ci small-block crate engine with polished valve covers marked “Hardcore 454 Limited Edition,” an MSD 6A ignition box, Hedman headers, and a K&N air cleaner. A 700R4 automatic transmission was installed with the engine in 2018, per the seller. Inside, an Auto Meter tachometer is mounted on the steering column and two auxiliary gauges sit in a panel on the dashboard. The car rides on polished aluminum wheels.
This 454-powered 1978 Chevrolet Malibu is now offered with a clean Michigan title in the seller’s name.
