Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Volkswagen Beetle underwent its final major overhaul for the 1973 model year, when it was designated 1303. Slightly longer than its predecessor, the 1303's visible changes included a curved panoramic windscreen, larger “elephant's foot” taillights, and a sculpted, padded dashboard with toggle switches instead of pull switches.
This 1976 VW convertible was sold new by Carter Motors in Washington State and was reportedly shipped to Italy by its original owner, a U.S. service member stationed there. The Super Beetle eventually wound up with another service member, who is said to have returned it to the U.S. It is said to have subsequently spent time in Utah and Colorado, where it was acquired by the seller in 2025.
The car left the factory finished in Lagoon Blue (50C) over black vinyl upholstery and is equipped with a four-speed manual transaxle. The original fuel-injected engine has been replaced with a carbureted unit that utilizes an earlier model (H5) single-relief engine case. The engine is equipped with a centrifugal advance distributor, a mechanical fuel pump, aftermarket pulleys, bolt-on valve covers, a spin-on oil filter adapter, an aftermarket exhaust, and an open-element air cleaner.
This 1976 Volkswagen Super Beetle convertible is now offered at no reserve with repair manuals, an owner's manual, spare parts, and a clean Colorado title in the seller’s name.
