Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
Huntsville, Alabama — or “Rocket City,” as we know it — is home to NASA rocket-propulsion research and development. Nothing quite encapsulates the launch and excitement of the region as this out-of-world collection of cars including movie cars and tributes, desirable classics, and a rocket truck itself. 3… 2… 1… These cars are ready for blastoff, and all will be launched to new homes and garages as all lots are presented with NO RESERVE. * * * Volkswagen called its Type 1 Beetle the “small wonder.” Originally known as the “people’s car” — the English translation of Volkswagen —the Type 1 is a global icon, recognized by various other nicknames around the world, such as Käfer, Vocho, Coccinelle, Fusca, Maggiolino, and of course, the Beetle. Following its entry into serial production after World War II, it achieved the status of the best-selling car based on a single platform, with 21.5 million units sold.
In 1968, the ubiquitous Volkswagen Beetle received its most notable update yet, introducing vertical sealed beam headlights, bigger and higher bumpers, and both 1,300 cc and 1,500 cc models. Taillights grew larger with reversing lights, push-button door handles appeared, and the spring-loaded fuel filler cap was finally moved to the fender from under the hood. These updates would carry the standard Beetle to the end of North American production in 1979. Forever fixed as a cultural symbol of the 1960s, the Beetle is beloved for its simple, robust construction, cheerful design, and ease of ownership.
