Description

1973 marked almost a decade since the Mustang debuted, and Ford was determined to take the first-generation pony car out with a bang. Though they shared similar underpinnings and wheelbases, the 1973 Mustang body was a foot longer than the 1964 ½. Ford took advantage of that real estate by creating five distinct bodies: the Hardtop, the SportsRoof with gently sloping “fastback” rear window, the dressed-up, vinyl-roof Grande, the hardcore Mach I, and the Convertible.

The Mustang Convertible laid its claim as Ford’s only convertible, as well as the lowest-priced sporty American droptop. Its power top was easy to retract, which revealed an exclusive interior with High Back bucket seats, sporty two-spoke steering wheel, and deluxe vinyl trim and door panels. A restyled honeycomb grille, tinted windshield, and color-keyed boot and urethane front bumper helped this convertible stand out, while standard power front disc brakes helped it slow down. And while a six cylinder was standard, enthusiasts upgraded to the largest engine option, the 351 Cleveland V8, for rapid top-down cruising.

This 351-powered 1973 Mustang Convertible is garage-kept and highly original, with only a new fender, a complete repaint, and a new convertible top since new.

Ownership History

Consignor states that this 1973 Mustang Convertible was purchased new by his father in 1973, handed down to him in 2003, and driven often. He had new paint applied and a new convertible top installed, and has kept it garaged throughout its life. Consignor states that the 351C engine runs great and uses no oil, and that the vehicle is mechanically in very good condition. The five-digit odometer shows 8,797 miles, which the consignor states has rolled over and is 108,797 miles.
