Description
The 1973 Datsun 240Z marked the final production year of the original 240Z, which combined sleek European-inspired styling, Japanese engineering, and a competitive price. Introduced in Japan in October 1969 as the Nissan Fairlady Z and later in the U.S. under the Datsun nameplate, the two-door fastback revolutionized the affordable sports car market and became a massive success in America and abroad.
The 240Z was powered by a 2.4-liter inline-six engine (L24) producing around 151 horsepower, paired with either a four-speed manual or three-speed automatic transmission. It featured independent suspension, front disc brakes, and a lightweight unibody design, offering a driving experience that rivaled much more expensive sports cars.
The 1973 model year brought a few notable changes. To meet new U.S. safety regulations, the 240Z received larger front bumper guards and reinforced bumpers; and some minor tuning changes were made to the carburetors and ignition system. Regardless, the car remained quick, agile, and stylish. More 1973 Datsun 240Z cars were produced than any other model year, laying the groundwork for the next generation 260Z, which debuted in 1974.
This 1973 Datsun 240Z has some minor flaws, but the seller recently performed extensive maintenance to make the car a great driver or an excellent candidate for restoration.
