Description

The Triumph GT6 was conceived as a six-cylinder answer to the Lotus Elan, combining the nimble, open-topped DNA of the Spitfire with a fastback roof, 2.0-liter inline-six, and just enough refinement to make it a genuine grand tourer in miniature. When it arrived in 1966, it turned heads thanks to its Giovanni Michelotti-styled body.

By the time the Mk III arrived for 1970, the GT6 featured independent rear suspension and improved brakes compared to prior iterations.

This 1972 example has had four owners from new according to the seller, who acquired it in December 2022. Over the years, extensive mechanical and cosmetic freshening has reportedly been completed, as detailed below.

This GT6 Mk III is now offered with an owner's handbook, various service and repair manuals, and a clean Illinois title in the seller's name.

Ownership History

According to the seller, this GT6 has had four other owners since new. The first drove it for approximately two years before selling in 1974. The second owner accumulated most of the mileage over 19 years of ownership before a transmission failure; the car then sat dormant for approximately 14 years before being sold in 1993. The third owner reportedly rebuilt the transmission, overhauled the engine, and repainted the body, driving it for several years before it sat dormant again prior to sale in 2011. The seller acquired this GT6 in December 2022 from the fourth owner after it had been stored for approximately 11 years.
