Description

The 1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport was Ford’s performance leader and a farewell to big-block muscle. Replacing the Torino Cobra, it showcased a bold “Coke-bottle” design with a fastback roofline and wide chrome grille. Standard power came from a 302 V8, while enthusiasts could choose the potent 351ci Cleveland (as seen here) and the legendary 429ci Cobra Jet—one of the last true muscle car options. Built on a new perimeter-frame chassis with improved suspension, the Sport offered improved handling and comfort. Distinctive features include hood scoops, body side stripes, and a vinyl-trimmed interior, cementing its place as an icon of early ’70s performance.

This 1972 Gran Torino Sport is a SportsRoof example finished in Medium Bright Yellow with a brown vinyl roof cover. Power is provided by a 351ci Cleveland V8 fed by a dual-barrel carburetor and sent to the rear wheels through a three-speed automatic transmission. The interior features seating surfaces reupholstered in tan vinyl and complemented by replacement carpets. Recent service is said to have included replacing the shocks, bushings, and brakes.

This Gran Torino Sport is now offered with its factory purchase order, a Deluxe Marti Report, an uninstalled vinyl roof cover, and transferable New York registration in the seller’s name.

Ownership History

The seller reports that the “original owner ordered and operated the vehicle in Oregon U.S. until the 1990s when it was purchased by the 2nd owner, and the car was taken to Canada, driven occasionally until my purchase of the car in 2024. My intent was to overhaul and do restoration. I’ve had a change of plans. However, the Gran Torino is in very good condition, especially considering its age. The body is solid..minor surface rust and that spot in the rear driver side from an old tire blowout years ago. The car starts and idles well. This mostly original Gran Torino is a head turner and with a moderate restore could be a show car.”

Included Items

  • Spare vinyl roof cover

  • Shop manuals
