Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Cadillac signaled the end of the 1960s — unintentionally, perhaps — when it redesigned its entire lineup at the same time. The restyled, ninth-generation 1971 Cadillac Eldorado was an over-the-top statement with a long hood and short deck. The wheelbase extended 6 inches to 126, and the car was larger than its predecessor.  The body was heavily sculptured, especially the rear, while the vertically textured rectangular grille was a new development. Front fenders were chiseled with a vertical crease, and wind-splits behind the enormous doors looked like they came from the mid-1950s. Fender skirts made a reappearance, and to top it all, a convertible was introduced just when everyone else was deleting soft tops from their lineups.

Cadillac hit its stride in ’72 — its 70th anniversary — by selling 267,787 cars, the first time it topped a quarter million. Standard power for the ’72 Eldorado was an 8.2-liter V8 that produced 235 horsepower, and an optional leather interior could be had with a bench front seat and folding center armrest, like in this one has. Other popular options included automatic climate control, tilt/telescopic steering column, remote trunk release, rear window defogger, power seats and door locks, and cruise control.
