Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

Take a Chevelle station wagon and transform it into a pickup truck! It’s the Chevy El Camino. Ford was the first to market with the popular Ranchero released in 1957. General Motors followed suit two years later with the Chevrolet El Camino — a period brochure billing it as “a commercial vehicle that’s a prize combination of business ability and beauty.” The second-generation El Camino which followed in 1964 brought bigger engines and higher trim levels, but it wasn’t until the third generation (1968–1972), based on the longer-wheelbase Chevelle station wagon, that solidified the pickup as a muscle-era legend. And since it’s standard Chevelle underneath, all powertrain options were available, up to Chevy’s mighty 454.

Offering the comfort and handling characteristics of a passenger car with the practicality of a pickup, the El Camino is still a unique car in automotive history and an interesting steppingstone to the luxury pickups on the road today. And this one, with a 454 Chevy engine replacing the original 402, hauls more than cargo.
