Description

OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE

The Super Beetle was Volkswagen's effort to reconnect with thrifty buyers. Making its debut for the 1971 model year, the 1302 offered enhanced comfort and improved handling, thanks to its McPherson strut front suspension. This new suspension system necessitated changes to the chassis and front body design. Notable changes included a new frame head, rounder fenders, a larger and wider hood, a revised front valance, and a redesigned spare tire well. The latter allowed the spare to rest horizontally beneath a cover, increasing front cargo space to nine cubic feet.

The 1.6L air-cooled flat-four engine now produced 60 horsepower, courtesy of dual-port cylinder heads and a larger carburetor. To support the increased power, Volkswagen improved engine cooling by redesigning the oil system and fitting vents to the decklid. Additional enhancements included a passenger-side vanity mirror on the sun visor and a flow-through ventilation system, which provided fresh air to the interior via crescent-shaped vents behind the rear quarter windows.

This VW 1302 rolled out of the Wolfsburg factory finished in Kansas Beige (L91D) over Cork leatherette upholstery and was optioned with an “Automatic Stickshift” three-speed semi-automatic transaxle.

This 1971 Volkswagen Super Beetle is now offered by the seller on behalf of its current owner with a clean Texas title in the current owner’s name.
