Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The Triumph Spitfire was introduced in 1962, as direct competition to the Austin-Healey Sprite. Though they were opponents in the marketplace, each car was serving the same purpose: making open-top motoring affordable to young motorists. The Spitfire was produced until 1980, combining attractive European styling and nimble handling with an accessible price. 1970 marked the end of a four-year run for the Spitfire's third generation, the Mark III, and the final year of the "round tail" Spitfires as well. Triumph gave the Mk III a mild facelift that included a black-finished grille and windshield frame, a new zip-down rear window in the convertible top, a revised steering wheel, and chassis and suspension refinements that improved handling. Powered by a lively 1,296cc four-cylinder engine producing 75 horsepower when new, the Mark III was the fastest Spitfire yet and helped cement the model’s place in history as one of the most enjoyable small British sports cars of the late 1960s and early 1970s.
This 1970 Triumph Spitfire Project is wearing a matte bronze peelable paint finish, topped by a yellow front stripe and blank white roundels on the doors. It is sitting on a set of powder-coated steel wheels, and sports a Triumph accessory hard top. Under the hood sits a 1,296cc inline four-cylinder engine mated to a 4-speed manual transmission. The interior is not complete, though the seller reports that the seats have been recently reupholstered.
This 1970 Triumph Spitfire Project is now offered with spare parts and a clean Wyoming title in the seller’s name.
