Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The fictional mad scientist Dr. Oldsmobile and the 1970 4-4-2 debuted around the same time — coincidence? Hardly. The modest 4-4-2 performance option introduced on 1964 F-85s had grown into a 455ci monster by 1970. So to hype Olds’ powerful 4-4-2s and W-machines, GM released ads with a lab coat-wearing hippie doing Frankenstein cosplay. As was the style at the time.
Thankfully, Oldsmobile’s muscle car engineering was more serious than its advertising. Sitting on a sturdy A-body frame, the 1970 4-4-2 was available in two-door post Sports Coupe, two-door hardtop Holiday Coupe, and Convertible bodies. And all featured round, beautiful styling with a unique grille, dual exhaust tips, and special badging that separated the 4-4-2s from regular Cutlasses.
But the real trip was 4-4-2’s massive 455ci V8, which produced a mind-bending 500 pound-feet of torque and 365 horsepower. Backed by a manual or automatic transmission, a heavy-duty suspension, and 14-inch wheels wearing soon-to-be bald performance tires, the 4-4-2 was both greatly admired and greatly feared on America’s boulevards.
This example features hardtop styling with pillarless side windows, and has been refinished in Black with Gold stripes and a cold air induction hood. It wears Gold upholstery, and commanding the original 455 is a Hurst shifter connected to a 3-speed manual transmission.
This 1970 Oldsmobile 4-4-2 Holiday Coupe is now offered by the selling dealer with a partial build sheet, original owner's manual and warranty booklet, a factory accessories catalog, and a clean Florida title with an "Exempt" mileage brand.
