Description

Among the legendary two-wheelers on display at the National Motorcycle Museum in Anamosa, Iowa, stands a Honda CT70, better known as the Trail 70. The museum understands the Trail 70’s place in history stating, “… who knows how many kids became life-long motorcyclists because of machines like the Honda Trail 70.” Honda produced over 200,000 of these $299 bikes between 1969 and ’71. They weren’t just for kids, as the museum reveals: “Like today’s ATVs and side-by-sides, there was also a commercial market for the CT70; ranchers, the park service, and more.”

Bigger than a minibike, smaller than a motorcycle, the Honda Trail 70 provided easy-to-operate mobility. The 72cc four-cycle engine meant no mixing of gas and oil, and for first-time riders the clutch-free three-speed transmission reduced the learning curve. Plus, with its light weight and folding handlebars, the Trail 70 was easily portable, and six different candy colors made it highly attractive.

This 1970 Trail 70 is dressed in Candy Ruby Red and delightfully restored to like-new condition. As the National Motorcycle Museum says of the bike, “It was a huge hit and still is.”
