Description
Introduced in 1958, the Chevrolet Impala quickly became the automaker's flagship passenger car, with a blend of style, performance, and affordability that ultimately attracted buyers for decades to come.
By 1970, the Impala had undergone several design changes and updates. The 1970 model, which marked the final year of the fourth generation, featured a slight restyle, particularly noticeable in the front and rear. The front end saw the return of separate grilles and headlights, a departure from the recessed headlights of the ’69 model that gave the 1970 Impala a more distinct and aggressive look. Under the hood, the 1970 Impala offered a range of engine options, from a 250 cubic-inch inline six-cylinder to a 390-horsepower 454 cu-in V8.
A 65-day GM workers' strike led to a substantial reduction in 1970 model production, with total output dropping by more than 270,000 units compared to the previous year. Despite those production challenges, Chevrolet produced 6,456 Impala Convertibles like this one, which is powered by a 400 cu-in V8 with Edelbrock intake manifold and carburetor and was repainted by a previous owner.
