Description

While the Chevrolet Chevelle debuted in 1964 with an angular design, the second-generation 1968 model bowed with a more rounded, aggressive look, the hardtop’s semi-fastback roofline drawing inspiration from the recently redesigned Camaro. By 1970, the Chevelle’s design evolved further with distinctive sheetmetal, as well as an upgraded interior offering more modern conveniences.

The big news was the SS 454 package, which featured unique styling, a domed hood, and special wheels to go along with a sport suspension, power disc brakes, and of course, a 454-cubic inch V8. However, there was a late addition to the 1970 Chevelle SS lineup with even higher performance: the LS6 454. Rated at an astounding 450 horsepower, the LS6 is known as one of the most powerful muscle car engines ever built. A 1970 Hot Rod track test recorded an incredible 13.44 quarter-mile time, with the writer stating, “Low-end torque was so tremendous that there was no way the car would leave smoothly. Torque isn’t a passing phase in this 454.”

This 1970 Chevelle SS 454 is believed to have retained its original LS6 engine, making it one of only 4,475 LS6-powered GM vehicles built in 1970 — and one of the most desirable muscle cars of all time.

 Ownership History

The consignor states, “This Fathom Blue Metallic 1970 Chevelle LS6 is believed to retain its original drivetrain, and comes with a build sheet showing the options. This could be the last Kansas City built automatic LS6, as the sequence number of the VIN is less than 400 from the end of production which includes all Chevelle, Malibu, and El Camino vehicles, putting the car as being built on either the second to last or the very last day of 1970 Kansas City plant production.”
