Description

Months after Chevrolet debuted the Camaro, Pontiac released the Firebird in early 1967. While both cars were of the F-body platform and had similar construction and design, the Firebird was more of a premium experience. Visually, it stood apart with a split-grille front, vertical louvers on the rear quarters, and louver-style taillamps. The driver-focused interior featured round gauges and bucket seats, and offered both standard and deluxe trim, with the deluxe option getting different door panels and seat patterns.

The 1969 Firebird was further refined with a fascia front end and smaller grille, aggressive front fender vents, contoured taillamps, and revised signal and marker lamp locations. The six-cylinder, 350 cu-in V8, and 400 cu-in V8 engines were all available in two power levels. And three- and four-speed manual transmissions controlled the power, with optional two- and three-speed automatics. A Car and Driver comparison test found that “The Firebird was everybody’s favorite sporty car. For sheer enjoyment and confidence behind the wheel, the Firebird was almost in a class by itself.”

This 1969 Firebird is powered by the 350 HO engine, was recently refinished in black, and wears visual and performance modifications to improve its driving experience.
