Description

Under the visionary guidance of John Z. DeLorean, the 1967 Pontiac Firebird boldly entered the pony car arena ignited by the Ford Mustang, debuting alongside the Chevrolet Camaro, which shared its sleek F-body platform and iconic “Coke bottle” curves. Initially equipped with a robust 165-horsepower 230 cu-in inline-six, the Firebird also offered impressive V8 options, including the spirited 326 and mighty 400 cu-in engines. True to the muscle car ethos of the era, it featured an extensive options list, allowing buyers to customize their rides with amenities like a tilt steering column, Rally II wheels, remote mirrors, power windows, and a striking rally gauge cluster. Despite plans for a new generation in 1970, Pontiac refreshed the Firebird in 1969 with a revamped front-end design and upgraded instrument panel. Today, these early Firebirds are cherished by collectors for their artistic flair, vibrant colors, and exhilarating performance.
