“The Corvette driver will be tired of smiling long before he’s tired of the car,” wrote Car Life magazine in 1969. Introduced for the 1968 model year, the third generation (C3) Corvette Stingray could be had as either a T-Top Coupe or Convertible, the exterior design characterized by voluptuous fender flares and vacuum-operated pop-up headlights. It also delivered a completely redesigned interior with an aircraft inspired instrument cluster. “If it has anything to do with the engine,” Chevrolet said, “there's a gauge for it.” Utilizing the well-proven chassis components from the C2, the C3 offered independent suspension, four-wheel disc brakes, and a slate of seven powerful V8 engines.

Car and Driver magazine was astounded by the L71’s performance, “This overall élan of the Corvette makes its performance deceiving. In spite of all the sensory inputs, it never seems as if you're going that fast. Power comes so effortlessly that neither car nor driver is ever called upon to strain in the slightest. Almost anyone, for example, could run the car through the quarter mile in excess of 100 mph.” No wonder this L71 has had just one owner.

Ownership History

This 1969 Corvette L71 Convertible has remained under the same ownership since new. The 164,277 miles showing are reported as actual by the consignor, who states the Corvette “was purchased by my grandfather December 1968. It took about a month for him to get the car delivered to him in New York from California. Grandfather kept the Vette in excellent condition, and it was always in a garage and covered when not being driven.”
