Description
OFFERED WITHOUT RESERVE
The 1969 Chevrolet Chevelle was the top-selling midsize vehicle in the U.S. market. Chevelles were available in coupe, sedan, wagon, and convertible body styles, with trim levels from the base 300 Deluxe to the upscale Malibu. For 1969, Chevelles featured a redesigned grille, a restyled front fascia that incorporated dual headlamps, and a revised rear bumper design with the taillights and backup lights stacked above it.
If high performance was the goal, the SS396 package was the answer. RPO code Z25 included the Mark IV 396 big block, which was available in 325-horse L35, 350-horse L34, and 375-horse L78 versions. A three-speed manual, Muncie’s beefy M21 or M22 four-speed manuals, or a Turbo Hydra-Matic 400 automatic handled the shifting. And a modified suspension, power disc brakes, sport-styled wheels, a power-dome hood, and SS badging rounded out the package, with available options including a cowl-induction hood.
Car and Driver pushed a factory SS396 to a 14.4-second quarter-mile; however, this restored 1969 Chevelle SS396 — equipped with a 496 cu-in stroker V8 crate engine and Sniper fuel injection — is much quicker. And thanks to a life lived in a dry climate, it retains its original sheet metal.
