Description

To compete with the venerable pony car, Chevrolet updated the design of the two-year-old Camaro for 1969, despite an entirely new generation set to debut in 1970. New squared-off wheel arches, a ‘V’-shaped grille, vented rear quarter panels, and a sleek rear valance panel all made for an overall more aggressive appearance. Most of the major mechanical underpinnings were carried over from the previous year, including a plethora of small block V8s and automatic or manual transmission options. Among marque enthusiasts, the 1969 Camaro is considered to be the ultimate blend of muscle and good looks, especially when equipped with the extra-cost L48 350 cu-in V8, such as this example.

This particular Camaro SS was produced in the second week of October 1969 at the Norwood, Ohio plant and finished in Le Mans Blue (71) with a Parchment (E) vinyl top and Ivory (727) vinyl bucket seats. The original owner, Billy Ray Davis, purchased the car new from Jack Williams Chevrolet in Fort Worth, Texas, and retained the car for 38 years until his passing. Today, the Camaro remains a highly original, numbers-matching example with only four private owners from new.

Ownership History

This Camaro SS was purchased new by Mr. Billie Ray Davis from Jack Williams Chevrolet in Fort Worth, Texas, in December 1968 and remained in his care until his passing in October 2006. The car was inherited by a short-term owner, also in Fort Worth, until it passed to its third owner in Oklahoma in February 2007. The current Missouri-based owner acquired the Camaro SS in January 2011 and has continued its careful preservation since.
