Description
The Buick GS 400 Stage 1, introduced in 1969, marked a pivotal moment for Buick’s performance lineup. Positioned as a refined alternative to the muscle car mainstream, the GS 400 combined understated styling with serious power. The Stage 1 performance package elevated the GS 400’s capabilities with a hotter camshaft, larger valves, and a revised carburetor—making it one of the most formidable sleepers of its era. With only 415 Stage 1-equipped hardtops produced in 1969, these cars remain highly sought after by enthusiasts.
Purchased by the seller in 1998, this Skylark GS 400 Stage 1 Hardtop project is finished in Frost Green (code 59) over a Parchment and Pearl interior and is powered by a correct 400ci V8 paired to a 4-speed manual transmission and 3.64 Positraction rear axle. The car features the Stage 1 performance package and aluminum front drum brakes, a hallmark of Buick engineering in the period.
The seller notes that the dashboard and dashboard pad have been refurbished, along with the speedometer cluster and bezel. The seller reports that all cluster lights, interior lamps, and turn signal bulbs have been replaced, and the headlight system has been serviced with new mounting hardware and brackets. Additional updates include a new cowl seal, refinished cowl area in satin black, new wiper hoses, solvent tank, and hardware.
With long-term Buick enthusiast ownership and a rare configuration, this 1969 Buick Skylark GS 400 Stage 1 is now offered with some spare parts, an owner's manual, and a clean Nebraska title in the seller’s name.

Servicing
From the seller: “This is a non-running project. I found the number eight exhaust valve pushrod bent because the lifter was sticking. I pulled all the lifters and pushrods at that time of inspection of motor. The engine looks good enough to rebuild, and all other parts are there for the car. I had sourced all of the missing interior parts as well. This is a great project given its completeness and rarity.”

Ownership History
From the seller: “I purchased this GS 400 Stage 1 in October 1998 and have owned it ever since. It’s one of 415 Stage 1 Hardtops built in 1969. I also own a GS 400 convertible, so this car has been part of a dedicated Buick collection for decades. I’ve been a GS Club of America (member number 3553) member for 30 years—I'm a GS fanatic! This Stage 1 has been garage-kept for all 28 years I’ve owned it. While it does not run, this is a great project car.”
